International Guitar Month

April is International Guitar Month.  The guitar is an old instrument, having  been around for some 3,300 years ago, although they didn’t quite look like today’s instruments. The word guitar is descended from the Latin word cithara, the modern guitar itself is not believed to have descended from the Roman instrument. There are many theories of where the modern guitar comes from.. One commonly cited theory is of the arrival of the four-string Oud, which was introduced by the invading Moors in the 8th century. Another is the six-string Scandinavian lut (lute), which gained in popularity in areas of Viking invasions across medieval Europe.. It is probably a combination of influences led to the creation of the guitar. Either way, there is nothing like listening to a guitar, whether at a concert in the hands of a metal master or plucked by an amateur around a campfire.
