Picture Jasper

One of my favorite new stones is Jasper. In particular, Picture Jasper.  It is called so because when the stone is cut,the combinations of patterns look like they might be scenes or images. They really do. If you put all of them together in a certain way you would have a scene of perhaps, a seashore or a mountain.  You won’t, but it certainly seems like you could. I guess if you had a LOT of jasper you might be able to.

Searchlight is an unincorporated town,Clark County, Nevada, United States,  As of the 2010 census it had a population of 539.

Picture Jasper can be found all over the world and their colors and patterns will be  unique to the geographic  region they originate. Biggs  ( from Oregon) Jaspers and Bruneau jaspers (from Bruneau canyon near Bruneau river in Idaho) are known as particularly fine examples. Other nice examples of Picture Jasper can be seen at Llanddwyn island in Wales. While I am not sure what type mine is, I do know it came from Searchlight Nevada. My husband was traveling in the area and saw a bead shop and stepped in. He found some amazing high quality, precious and semi-precious gem stones, including the Picture jasper . I used   the amazing cubed beads to make a necklace, earrings and bracelet.  The cubes look shape but it is comfortable to wear.
