CROCHET CLUSTER FLOWER
I am making a blanket using these really wonderful Crochet Cluster Flowers. They are called cluster because the petals are made by clustering Double Triple Crochet (dtr) together. The pattern may sound a bit daunting, but once you get the hang of it you can make a ton of these just watching TV. Adding to a granny square, fastening to barrettes for hair accessories , your imagination is the limit with these cluster flowers. I crocheted with a yellow center and then scrap yarn of various colors. I thought I would share how to make them with you.
Chain 6. Join to form ring
Rnd 1: 16 sc in ring. Join (if using two colors as I did then fasten and insert second color into same stitch as fastening)
Rnd 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dtr), work 2 dtr I same sp. Work 3 dtr in next sc. Drop loop from hook. Insert hook in top of n 4 and draw dropped loop through. Cluster made. Chain 3. work 3 dtr in next sc. Work 3 dtr in next sc. Drop loop insert hook through top of first dtr. Grab dropped loop and draw through. Cluster made. Ch 3* repeat 6 more times from *. Join in back of first cluster.
You should have an 8 petal cluster flower!
I am using 4ply yarn and a size G (4mm) hook. Bigger hooks make bigger flowers, smaller hooks make smaller flowers. The same for the yarn choice.
Another flower stitch (although it is a border) is the Tulip Stitch using the Half Double Triple Crochet:
