I don’t steal. Even if I forget to scan something I go back and either give it to the clerk or if it is something I need I scan and pay for it. I never feel like I “got away with something” and by paying for it, I not only help keep pricing down, I sleep good at night. I do not mean any of that as a self righteous, look at me I am a good person kind of vibe. It is more a indication of my own internal compass. Stealing is stealing, no matter the reason. I guess if I was very hungry I would be tempted, sure, who wouldn’t?

I am not hungry. Nor are most of the people in the I read article online from The Atlantic , entitled “The Banana Trick and Other Acts of Self Checkout Thievery.” written by Rene Chun. It talks about how one would input the banana code in order to buy a much ore expensive piece of meat at a very reduced price.

I was actually shocked at the thought that folks feel it is OK to cheat the machine at the self checkout. The article talks about how surveys by a free coupon company indicted that “2,634 people, nearly 20 percent admitted to having stolen at the self-checkout in the past. “ That’s pretty wild. I would be afraid I would get caught. Maybe that’s the real reason I do not steal. I don’t want to get caught. NAh its because I want to sleep at night. Click link below to read.
